Shotgun Shooting

Tonight we went shotgun shooting at the Mitchell Trap Club's shooting range. Several boys completed their shooting qualifications for the MB. But, this time of year the days are getting shorter and not all of the boys were able to finish before it got too dark.

If you were there and didn't get to finish please contact Jeff G. to work out another time when you can get finished up.

Trivia: Did you know that the trap range used to be Mitchell's airport? Where we shoot used to be a runway that biplanes used. Mitchell's current airport used to be a military training airbase. If you look around up there you can find pillboxes.

Here are some pictures.

I love this picture. A Good Photographer would take more care setting up his shots. But I'm not a Good Photographer. In this one, Jeff looks like a midget and Bruce looks enormous. Hehe. Come to think of it, he is enormous.

Andrew checks the sights on his shotgun. Haha that's a joke, do you know why?

Gettin' ready to puff a few "birds".

Everyone wearing a Philmont hat go stand over there.

Anthony shows the 13th point of the Scout Law: It wasn't me.

Hurry up and wait.

All right, listen up. The top concern tonight is... SAFETY.

More Adventures In Perspective.

Fabian dispatches a clay pigeon to the afterlife.

Keeping track of the shots. Must shoot 24 of 50 birds to qualify for the MB.

Hello, Mr. Pigeon, my name is Buck Shot.

Kyle nods off while keeping score. Not Really. He's actually playing hangman. Not really. Let's see... that's seven, carry the one...

Corn field... you're goin' DOWN!

Brandon lost in thoughts of... popcorn.

Fall Camporee

Deb B. announced at the troop meeting last night that the registration deadline for Fall Camporee is Oct. 18. We will be asking you to sign up for the camporee during the next few troop meetings. We will also be asking for drivers.

We will be working on the Pioneering MB at the camporee. Everyone who stays the whole weekend will earn the MB, and will receive it, at camp. There will also be t-shirts and patches for all registered participants, including adults. Follow the link for more info.

Note from Kristin V. About Popcorn Sales

Popcorn selling begins Oct. 3 through Oct. 30. Show & sell is the most effective way to reach your goal. The boys will earn 28% commission on their popcorn sales plus prizes from their level of selling. Popcorn can be picked up Thursday evening Oct. 2, between 7:00 & 8:00 at Brandon and Kristin V's home. If those times will not work for you, please call Kristin to schedule a time after that date. All popcorn order forms & leftover popcorn need to be turned into Kristin by Sat. Nov. 1st, time and place to be announced.

Jared Wants Help With His Eagle Project

Tonight at the troop meeting, Jared F. asked for scout volunteers to help him with his Eagle project. He is constructing an outdoor basketball court at Mitchell Christian School. The concrete has been poured, now the basketball hoops need to be assembled. Jared estimates it will take about 2 hours. See the announcement in the picture and give him a call if you can come. Time spent working on this will count toward your community service hours.

Shotgun Shooting MB Troop Meeting

Tonight, we met at the Davison County Shooting Club's indoor shooting range for more instruction on the Shotgun Shooting MB. The session was led by NRA-certified instructor George Sinkie and Dave Hiles.

Next week's troop meeting will be at the 4-H trap shooting range, 6:30 PM. Bring $5.00 for the clay pigeons and 50 of your own shotgun shells, either 20 or 12 ga. #8 shot. Also bring your own eye and ear protection if you have it. They have some there but your own would be better. Remember: To qualify for the Shotgun Shooting MB you must hit at least 24 out of 50 birds. For those that already have the MB, there will be fun shooting available, possibly the Annie Oakley game.

Troop Meeting 9/23/08

See Jeff's notes in the picture for info about the troop meeting. One comment that wasn't there is that you should get #8 shot for trap shooting.

Also, we have troop open house Oct. 14, all three Mitchell cub scout packs have been invited. We need to get activities planned and there is not much time. I will have the SPL get with the PLC to come up with a plan.

Fun Night at Lake Mitchell

Tonight we had Fun Night at Lake Mitchell where we canoed in the bay. The weather was absolutely perfect. The water was as smooth as glass.

Here are some pictures.

Josh and Jared get ready to go trolling in their canoe. Seriously. They had a car battery in there.

Anthony and Kyle unload.

Heading out.

Walker and Andrew get a canoe.

Mayhem on the lake!

Jordan and his dad Kevin.

Brothers Anthony and Andrew.

Thought you were going to stay dry, did you? Walker and Levi getting Donald wet.

Sherri and I sighted the Loch Ness Monster in Lake Mitchell! Not really. Actually, we chased down this Cormorant. All we could see was his head and neck because his body stayed submerged. Follow the link for more info. The one we saw had a yellow bill, like this one.

Josh leisurely paddling his kayak.

The Donald threatens The Photographer while Josh practices parallel parking in his kayak. Not really. Actually, seconds after this picture was taken, Josh rammed his kayak into Donald's and they both sank. Not really.

It's getting dark, time to bring them back in.

Jeff wraps up the evening with announcements about next week's troop meeting.

Don't forget: The next TWO troop meetings are at the 4-H fairgrounds, for shotgun shooting. 6:30, not 6:45.
