Change in Plans for Bike Trek

We had a problem with our Tour Permit so we won't be going to Sioux Falls for our bike trek, but rather will be cycling in the Mitchell area. We will still meet at Cambell's parking lot on Sat. at 8:00 AM, so bring all of the same equipment, including money, as we will eat together when we finish.

Archeodome Cleanup

This year, Troop 75 participated in cleaning up the Mitchell Archeodome as a service project. I am not the greatest example of a good scout because, once again, I was unable to attend this event. Sorry guys :/. I will try to give you the best picture possible that I can of what took place.

-The sign up sheet for the Mitchell Archeodome clean up.

-The volenteers preparing to clean up.

-Sergey and Levi diligently cleaning.

-Sergey and Levi take a break to pose for a picture.

Thats about all I have to say for the cleaning of the Archeodome. This is a great way to get service hours for rank advancement, so if you need to get in any hours make sure you contact one of the adult leaders to see if they can get you in to help out with something.

Klondike Derby 2009

The Klondike Derby this year was held at the Mitchell archery range on March 6th, 2009. I unfortunatly was not able to attend so I can not give you a ton of information about it, but I will try my best.

-The 2009 Klondike Derby participants of our troop.

-A competition that our troop participated in which required them to cook an egg with a limit of matches.

-Another one of the competitions that some of our scouts participated in that taught them to work together and use teamwork to get a tennis ball into a bucket.

-Some of the boys waiting to get the results of the competitions.

Well thats about all I know about this post. Like I said, if you would like me to post a riddle or something else like that, just let me know by commenting on the last post. Once again, I'm sorry I can't say much more, but I wasn't present at the Klondike Derby.

New Contributor

Hi! I'm sure you all already know me but for those who don't, I am Mark Pretre, and I am Troop 75's Historian. I will try to update the Troop 75 blog as often as I can, but I can't promise that I will be able to keep it very freequent, due to school activities, homework, and other activities that would prevent me from updating the blog. My goal is to try and keep you guys updated about the activities that the troop does. I will try to keep my posts fun and enjoyable by posting a fun riddle or something like that at the end of each post, but before I put any riddles in the posts, I would like to get your opinions on whether or not to do that. So if you would like me to do that, just put a simple Yes or No as a comment on this post. Thanks and I will try to keep the blog updated as often as I can!

-Mark

- We welcomed the newest members of our Troop. They recently crossed over. The Patrol's name is the Flaming Arrows.
-Klondike is this weekend. It begins around 5:45 @ the Mitchell Stumpshooters Club by the National Guard Base. Scribe's Notes

During our troop meeting on January 27th, we had the last meeting of the month, ending the January unit of "Collecting and Hobbies." We had Doug Carlson, an area woodcarver, come in and talk about his hobby. He has been woodcarving as a hobby, not a job, for 30 years. He showed us several pieces he had created, and showed the boys many of his tools. It was a very fun night.
- This past sunday was the Annual Troop 75 Spaghetti Feed! We seved spaghetti from 11:00am to 1:00 pm. It was a blast! We also raised money for the troop with the profits. The food was prepared on Saturday, after the Lock-In. It was delicious. Thanks to Sheri and Deb for chairing the Spaghetti Feed.
- The Lock-In was on Friday night. The boys had great fun with video games which, as I heard, involved not going to sleep at all and lots of Medal of Honor. They then prepared food for the Spaghetti feed, and headed on home to catch up on lost sleep.
-Alan is currently in Ukraine, and is coming back with the kids. Congratulations to the Pretre Family.
-Dont forget about the Klondike. Make sure you have proper winter gear. The Klondike is being held in Mitchell this year.

Sincerely
Troop 75 Scribe

Scribe's Notes: Scouting for Food.

Saturday was a good day. First, we stopped at the Salvation Army with a lot of food. We donated more then 4000 items of food to the Food Pantry. We stood there and helped them sort it out. Afterwards, we drove to the Outdoor campus, where we played several games of hide-and-go-seek. We also went geo-caching. It was right about then we got the call. The Corn Maze had closed for the day, on account of all the mud. Well, like any good Scouters, we had a backup plan. We headed for Falls Park. We climbed in the rocks and had a great time. We headed home soon afterwords. It was very fun.

Outdoor Campus + Falls Park

On Saturday, after Scouting for Food, we went to Sioux Falls to the Outdoor Campus, and Falls Park. As you know, we had intended to go to the corn maze, but they announced at 4:00 PM on Sat., after we were already in Sioux Falls, that they were closed due to muddy conditions from all of the rain that we got last week. Well, we still had fun, though!

Here are some pictures.

Outdoor Campus

Lunch at McDonalds's before we left.

Learning about nature.

Hiking and geocaching.

Playing hide-and-seek.

Hanging out.

Exploring.

Falls Park

Fun on the rocks!

We finished up the evening with dinner at Valentino's for pizza and pasta buffet. Thanks to all who came!

Scouting for Food 10/25/08

Troop 75 participated in the Scouting for Food food drive Mitchell. All of the cub scout and boy scout units in Mitchell participated and we collected 770 food items. Altogether in Mitchell, the scouts collected 3200 items. The food bank said this may last until Christmas. Thanks to all of the scouts that helped out. Remember that the time you spent putting out bags, collecting the bags, and sorting food at the Salvation Army all counts toward your community service hours.

Here are some pictures.
